The way to evening prayer is short in thought and long in practice. Unlock the phone, past three notifications, find the app, find the right screen — and somewhere along the way the moment is gone. That is exactly the stretch the candle cuts out.

Why wood, why frankincense
The lid is wooden because it has to be
Metal blocks radio waves — a handsome brass lid would have silenced the chip. So the wood is not a matter of style but the condition for the whole thing working at all. That it also looks warmer is a gift.
Frankincense is the scent of the threshold
It hangs in every church you step into out of everyday life. At home it does the same: it marks that something different is beginning now than what ran all day. Hence the line on the label — it smells like a new chapter.
Nothing is transmitted
The chip is a signpost, not a sender. It carries an address and nothing else — it does not measure when you pray, and reports it to no one. Your entries stay encrypted on your device, as everywhere in the app.

Frequently asked
Do I need the app for the candle to do anything?
For the short way, yes. With Lumen installed the prayer opens straight away. Without the app you land on a page explaining what this is about — the candle burns either way.
Does it work on Android too?
Yes. Android has read NFC for a long time, and Lumen is available there as well. On iPhone, unlocking is enough — the candle is recognised as you hold it close.
Does the chip wear out?
No. It has no battery and no moving parts; the energy comes from the phone when it is read. It will outlive the candle and can be moved to a new jar afterwards.
When will it be available again?
As soon as the next batch is ready. Naming a date we cannot keep would be the worse beginning — sign up and you will hear from us before it goes public.
What happens to my email address?
It sits on the server for this one purpose, you confirm it once with a click, and after the notification it is deleted. No newsletter, nothing passed on. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email.
